About this calculator
What this calculator does
Calculates your monthly car finance repayment under the National Credit Act, the true total cost of credit including NCA initiation fees and service fees, and the hidden cost of balloon payments — showing you what a balloon payment actually costs in total interest.
How to interpret your results
The monthly repayment shown assumes you pay the balloon amount as a lump sum at the end of the term. If you cannot pay the balloon, you will need to refinance it, which increases your total cost further.
Assumptions applied
- Interest rate is fixed for the full term. In practice, car finance rates in SA are usually fixed but negotiable at point of sale.
- NCA initiation fee is calculated at the maximum permitted rate under the NCA (R1,207.50 + 10% of the amount above R10,000, capped at R11,500).
- Monthly service fee is R69/month as permitted under the NCA.
- No comprehensive insurance is included in the repayment shown.
What this calculator doesn't account for
- Does not account for your credit profile or the rate your specific dealer or bank will offer.
- Comprehensive insurance, which is typically required by the finance house, is not included.
- Extended warranty and other add-on products are not modelled.
- Residual value of the vehicle at end of term is not shown.
